So Morehead State University, as you may have guessed is located in Morehead, Kentucky. It's a small town with like 10,000 people and pretty much nothing to do besides hang out at Buffalo Wild Wings whenever the game's on, or go to Walmart and shoot the shit. The cool part about the town is the surrounding area. Morehead is inside a valley of several hills and small mountains, so it almost feels like you are trapped sometimes. At the same time, the city is ten minutes from Cave Run Lake, this huge man-made reservoir made back in the 60's. So there is a lot of great scenery and biology around the area.
Here is Main Street. This is basically the "downtown" part of Morehead where most of the businesses are. Pasquale's, Holbrook Drug, Phoenix Feather (Magic: TG Shop), IGA. It's also important to know that the city is pretty much divided into two parts, stupidly connected by this long-ass road. The downtown part where campus is, and the shopping area with Kroger, Walmart and other places.
Anyway, enough about the city because it's boring so let's move on to the campus.
Sorry about the tiny picture, but it was the only picture of the sign I could find. When you enter campus the normal way by turning on University Boulevard, you're gonna pass this sign welcoming you. There is also this tall, spire thing next to it, but sadly it's not in the picture.
Going down University you're going to pass the Health Building and the Police Department on the right before you come to the first major building.
This is Cartmell Hall. Pretty much, this is the best residence hall on campus if you want a traditional style, two person room with community bathrooms. Kinda of strange how they built the thing on that pedestal thing. You have to go upstairs to get into the lobby, which in turn, technically isn't the first floor since there are no rooms on the lobby floor. Besides that, it has this nice glass lobby on the bottom with a Ping-Pong table and game rooms. The elevators are freakin' fast, zipping up to the sixteenth floor in time it takes others to go to the fourth floor.
Going down University further, you're going to come to a three way stop. Taking a right on Battson-Oates, you're heading straight for the residential side of campus.
You might have to zoom in, but here is a high quality photo of the residential side of campus. Starting from the top left, you have Nunn Hall, the creepiest, most haunted building on campus. It seriously looks like a dam that blocks the valley, and resembles a prison.
Seriously though, how can you not be creeped out by this thing. It's just a weird building. There's that big glass lobby that's elevated for some reason, there's the road that goes underneath the whole building. But by far the weirdest thing, are those "windows". Yeah, they aren't actually windows. Apparently, those are just openings into the HALLWAY. So the hallway is like the walkway at a motel/hotel, that goes all the way along the face of the building. Really, the whole building has a shell. No other dorm I've ever heard of does this, that has the hall open to the elements. When you are looking at all those windows, you are actually looking at a bunch of doors.
The one immediately to the right of it on the overhead picture, Waterfield Hall, was really shitty and the tore it down. Below Waterfield, we have the Mignon Complex. The tower in the center of the circle is Mignon Tower, the one on the right is Mignon Hall, the top one is West Mignon, and the bottom one is East Mignon. (don't ask why). Those are all really nice too, four person suites where a lot of the upperclassmen live.
Looks like I have to go early and abandon the tour. Sorry guys, I'll continue it later and finish up the dorms and talk about the other buildings on campus. Until then, see ya.
